Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular, and with that comes the need for specialised knowledge about how to service and repair them. EV’s have fewer moving parts than combustion engine vehicles, but there is a higher risk of danger working on these vehicles if you’re not a trained specialist. The service items that are required are different and specialised training is necessary to work on EV’s safely. Having the right equipment is also essential, we’ve invested ten’s of thousands of pounds to service electric vehicles. This includes a battery table, a specialist weight bearing ramp and a wider tyre changing machine due to the weight and width of electric vehicle.

Here are some of the key differences between servicing or repairing an EV

• Frequency of servicing: EV’s typically need servicing less often than regular petrol or diesel vehicles. This is because they have fewer moving parts and are less prone to wear and tear. The exact service interval will vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle, but it is typically every 12,000 to 18,000 miles.
• Service items: The service items for an EV are different from those for a combustion engine vehicle. For example, EV’s do not need oil changes, air filter changes, or spark plug replacements. However, they do need to have their brake fluid, tyres, and cabin air filter changed at regular intervals. Combustion engine vehicles, on the other hand, also need oil changes, air filter changes, spark plug replacements, and other service items.
• Specialised training: Servicing an EV requires specialised training. This is because EVs use high-voltage electrical systems that can be dangerous if not handled properly. Therefore, it is important to have your EV serviced by a qualified technician. We’ve invested in up skilling all our team members to work on electric vehicles.
